What To Wear To A Rock Concert Guys Over 40

When it comes to attending a rock concert, age is just a number, and one should never let it hinder their style choices. As guys over 40, we may have experienced the evolution of rock music firsthand, witnessing the transformation and longevity of this iconic genre. However, finding the perfect outfit that combines our own unique style while paying homage to the rebellious spirit of rock can be a sartorial challenge. Fear not, as we navigate the realm of fashion for mature rock enthusiasts, ensuring that age is no barrier to celebrating the music we love. In this article, we’ll explore a plethora of inspiring outfit ideas, blending a touch of sophistication with rock ‘n’ roll edge, proving that style knows no age boundaries. So, gentlemen, let the countdown to an unforgettable concert experience begin – with the perfect outfit in tow!

What to Wear

Jeans  – Every rocker chic chick needs a pair of fabulous jeans: boot cut, bell bottom, skinny jeans, blue or black.  Add some edge with rips and raw hems!

Shoes – You need shoes comfortable enough for dancing, but cool enough for your look.  I suggest booties, 2-3 inches high.  Black is classic choice and if it has studded details, even better!  A pair of snakeskin or croc effect boots will look cool and trendy too.

Tops – Band tees, sheer or lace blouse, with a cami,  (I’d pass on the low cut “Bitchin” tee that got your husband’s attention in 1985, but you know … that’s just me.)

Jacket – A leather (or faux leather) moto jacket is always a go to.   I also love a velvet blazer for another cool look. Or take your outfit up  another level with a fun faux fur coat!

Skirts  – Personally I’d only do a mini if it wasn’t very mini, and probably only with tights.  But you do what makes you feel good.

Bag – Go with a small cross-body bag.  You know I’m a queen of the huge tote, but for a concert you really need something small, simple and hands-free.

Jewelry – Have fun with your jewelry!  The layered look that’s so hot right now is perfect with your rock n roll outfit.

Belt – Black leather with studs or grommets is always a great choice.

Scarf – You can always add a long skinny animal print scarf or something with a cool skull design (think Alexander McQueen).

Sunglasses – Add ROCK STAR sunnies for extra attitude! Of course this makes better sense outside in the daytime, but sometimes a diva doesn’t need the sun to wear her fav shades.

Hats – A floppy black felt hat or a newsboy cap can be a cute addition to your rock concert look.

Common Pitfalls

Mistake #1 – Wearing exactly what you would’ve worn to concert  … when you were 21 … in 1987.  Enough said, Ladies?!

Mistake #2 – Not enjoying the chance to dress a little differently than usual. Don’t just wear something that you’d wear to work or to the movies. Sure you could, but this is a chance to be playful and let a bit of your inner rocker come out and play. Step out of your comfort zone a bit …but …

Mistake #3 – Don’t take it to the extreme either!  Don’t wear something so unlike you that you look like you’re wearing a Halloween costume!

As for the leather moto jacket, black is the everlasting symbol of rock and roll. However, now that you are older, you may find you have outgrown it. Black leather can be harsh and aging next to mature skin, so you’re OK to go with a more sophisticated shade like blush, which is considered neutral.

Rock Concert - Long Sweater Leather Leggings

Pair your leather jacket with a white or cream top with a slight edge. Look for tops with cutouts, studs, or other rock n’ roll touches. Top it off with your upscale rocker look with a designer bag and a pair of cute suede booties.

Black Leggings + a Long Top

Black leggings worn with a long top are another great way to get the grown-up rocker chic look. Plus, you will feel super comfy all night long. Any black legging will do, but leather or faux leggings add to the heavy metal vibe. Team your leggings with a sleek, long top that covers your bottom. This brick cashmere sweater looks fabulous with this inky crossbody bag and comfy black slides.
